Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was a fearless Special Operations Group (SOG) commando whose unwavering dedication to duty earned him the respect of fellow security personnel and the people he served. Affectionately known as "Bindaas" among his colleagues, he was recognised for his calmness, courage and determination during counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Hailing from the Uri area of Baramulla district, Constable Mudasir devoted his career to protecting innocent lives and maintaining peace in the region. He participated in numerous anti-terror operations, working closely with the Indian Army and other security agencies. His professionalism and exceptional fieldcraft made him an invaluable member of every mission.
On 25 May 2022, acting on specific intelligence about the movement of heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists in the Kreeri area of Baramulla, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army launched a counter-terrorism operation. During the encounter, Constable Mudasir displayed extraordinary bravery. Despite coming under intense terrorist fire, he continued to engage the terrorists at close range, successfully eliminating one of them while helping corner the remaining militants. Although he sustained fatal injuries during the fierce exchange, the operation concluded with the elimination of three Pakistani terrorists, preventing a major terrorist plot and saving countless innocent lives.
For his conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, India's third-highest peacetime gallantry award. His citation recognised his exceptional devotion to duty and his fearless actions during one of the most critical operations in the Kashmir Valley.
Constable Mudasir Ahmad Sheikh's legacy continues to inspire security personnel and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. His life stands as a powerful reminder that courage knows no boundaries and that true patriotism is defined by selfless service. He made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his fellow citizens, ensuring that peace prevailed over violence.
His bravery will forever be remembered. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.
