Every soldier who wears the Indian Army uniform accepts that duty comes before self. Some return home after years of service, while others make the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of the nation. Among those brave warriors was Gunner Nilesh Singh, whose courage and dedication remain an enduring source of inspiration.
Gunner Nilesh Singh was serving with the 34 Rashtriya Rifles (34 RR), a unit entrusted with conducting counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Throughout his service, he displayed unwavering commitment, discipline and bravery while carrying out challenging operational duties in one of the country's most demanding conflict zones.
On 1 April 2018, Gunner Nilesh Singh laid down his life during the Kachedoora Operation in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir. As the security forces engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, Gunner Nilesh Singh fought with exceptional courage and determination. During the intense encounter, he sustained fatal injuries while protecting the nation and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
His martyrdom stands as a reminder of the immense sacrifices made every day by the men and women of India's armed forces. Their dedication ensures the safety and security of millions, often at the cost of their own lives.
