Sepoy Janjal Pravin Prabhakar of the Mahar Regiment, attached to the 1st Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles (1 RR), was a courageous soldier whose unwavering commitment to duty and fearless spirit made him an inspiration to his comrades. Hailing from Morgaon Bhakre village in Akola district, Maharashtra, he joined the Indian Army with a deep sense of patriotism and a firm resolve to serve the nation.
On 6 July 2024, during a counter-terrorism operation in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, Sepoy Janjal was deployed as part of the outer cordon to prevent the escape of terrorists. While maintaining his position, he noticed suspicious movement and immediately alerted his team. Demonstrating exceptional tactical awareness, he swiftly moved to intercept the terrorists despite the grave danger.
As the terrorists opened heavy fire, Sepoy Janjal responded with remarkable courage and determination. Engaging the terrorists at close range, he displayed outstanding marksmanship and exceptional composure under intense enemy fire. During the fierce gun battle, he successfully eliminated two hardcore terrorists, playing a decisive role in the success of the operation. In the exchange of fire, he sustained fatal injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
For his conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and unwavering devotion to duty beyond the call of duty, Sepoy Janjal Pravin Prabhakar was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India's second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
