He was a brave police officer who stood at the forefront of the fight against terrorism, always placing the safety of innocent civilians and the security of the nation above his own life.

On 20 August 2019, security forces launched a counter-terrorism operation in Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir, after receiving credible intelligence regarding the presence of heavily armed terrorists inside a residential house. The operation became particularly challenging as several civilians were trapped within the building, making their safe evacuation an immediate priority.

Without hesitation, Bilal Ahmad Magray volunteered to join the assault team tasked with rescuing the trapped civilians. Fully aware of the grave risks involved, he advanced into the danger zone with exceptional courage and determination. As the operation intensified, terrorists opened heavy fire and hurled grenades at the security forces, creating an extremely hostile environment.

Despite coming under intense terrorist fire and sustaining critical injuries during the operation, Bilal Ahmad Magray refused to abandon his mission. Displaying remarkable bravery and an unwavering sense of duty, he continued assisting in the rescue of civilians and supported his fellow personnel until he ultimately made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

His fearless actions played a crucial role in saving innocent lives and reflected the highest traditions of the Jammu & Kashmir Police. His courage, professionalism, and selfless devotion to duty continue to inspire police personnel and citizens across the country.

In recognition of his exceptional gallantry and conspicuous courage beyond the call of duty, Bilal Ahmad Magray was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest peacetime gallantry awards. The honour stands as a lasting testament to his heroism and unwavering commitment to protecting the nation.
