Inspector Arshad Khan was an exceptional officer of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, remembered for his courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to protecting the people. A native of Karan Nagar, Srinagar, he joined the police force as a Sub-Inspector in 2001 and went on to serve in several challenging assignments across the Kashmir Valley. His outstanding contribution to counter-terrorism operations earned him widespread respect among colleagues and senior officers.
Over the years, Inspector Arshad Khan built a reputation as a fearless field officer who believed in leading from the front. His dedication to intelligence gathering and anti-terror operations played a vital role in several successful missions, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment to the nation.
On 12 June 2019, terrorists launched a deadly attack on security personnel deployed on K.P. Road in Anantnag. On receiving information about the assault, Inspector Arshad Khan, then serving as SHO of Police Station Anantnag, rushed to the scene without hesitation. He confronted the heavily armed attacker at close range and engaged him in a fierce exchange of fire. Despite sustaining a critical gunshot wound to the chest, he continued the fight, enabling other security personnel to eliminate the terrorist and prevent further casualties.
After receiving emergency medical treatment in Kashmir, he was airlifted to AIIMS, New Delhi for advanced care. Despite the best efforts of doctors, Inspector Arshad Khan made the supreme sacrifice on 16 June 2019 due to the injuries he had sustained while protecting others.
In recognition of his extraordinary bravery, leadership, and devotion to duty, Inspector Arshad Khan was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest peacetime gallantry awards. His courage remains a shining example of the finest traditions of the Jammu & Kashmir Police and continues to inspire generations of police personnel and citizens alike.
