Sepoy Hari Singh was a fearless soldier of the Indian Army who served with the 55 Rashtriya Rifles after joining The Grenadiers Regiment. Known for his determination, discipline, and unwavering devotion to duty, he earned the respect of his comrades through his courage and professionalism.
During his deployment in Jammu & Kashmir, he participated in several counter-terrorism operations, displaying exceptional bravery while protecting the nation. His commitment to the mission and willingness to lead from the front reflected the finest traditions of the Indian Army.
On the night of 17–18 February 2019, security forces launched a counter-terrorism operation in Pinglena, Pulwama, following intelligence about the presence of heavily armed terrorists. Sepoy Hari Singh, alongside his team, led the search from the front. As the troops searched a cowshed, terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, and he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being critically injured, he immediately returned fire, preventing the terrorists from escaping.
Displaying extraordinary courage and complete disregard for his own safety, Sepoy Hari Singh repositioned himself under intense enemy fire to engage the terrorists effectively. During the fierce encounter, he successfully eliminated one foreign terrorist and injured another before making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. His fearless actions played a vital role in the success of the operation.
In recognition of his exceptional gallantry, indomitable courage, and devotion to duty beyond the call of duty, Sepoy Hari Singh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest peacetime gallantry awards.
