On 06 September 2001, Sub-Inspector/Ministerial Prabir Bhattacharjee of the 31 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, was performing his duty in Jammu and Kashmir when a convoy of his battalion came under a deadly terrorist attack in the Qazigund area. Born on 19 October 1962 and hailing from West Bengal, Prabir Bhattacharjee had dedicated himself to the service of the nation through the Central Reserve Police Force, carrying out his responsibilities in an environment where danger could emerge without warning. On that day, his devotion to duty would carry him into the ranks of the fallen, leaving behind a legacy of service and sacrifice.
The 31 Battalion CRPF convoy was moving through the Qazigund area when terrorists triggered an improvised explosive device against it. The troops immediately responded to the attack and launched a search operation in the surrounding area, determined to locate those responsible for the assault.
