Constable B K Hazarika of 172 Battalion, Border Security Force, was one of the brave personnel who made the supreme sacrifice while serving in Jammu & Kashmir. Born on 01 January 1965, he dedicated himself to the service of the nation and carried out his duties in an operational environment where security personnel faced the constant threat of terrorism.

As a member of 172 Battalion BSF, Constable B K Hazarika served in an area where maintaining security demanded courage, alertness and an unwavering commitment to duty. The personnel deployed in Jammu & Kashmir had to remain prepared for sudden encounters with terrorists while continuing to protect the people and maintain security.

His service came during a difficult period of counter-terrorist operations in the region. Like many of his comrades, he served far from home in circumstances where danger could emerge without warning.

The Final Operation in Sopore

On 10 September 1992, Constable B K Hazarika was involved in a counter-terrorist operation in the Sopore area of Jammu & Kashmir. During the operation, the security personnel came under hostile fire.

Constable B K Hazarika sustained fatal bullet injuries while carrying out his duty during the operation. The troops continued to face the terrorist threat while maintaining their resolve in the midst of the encounter.

His injuries proved fatal, and Constable B K Hazarika made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 10 September 1992.

He was only 27 years old. His life was dedicated to service, and his final moments came while performing the duty entrusted to him as a member of the Border Security Force in Sopore.

His sacrifice remains a part of the history of 172 Battalion BSF and the larger story of the personnel who served in Jammu & Kashmir during the challenging years of counter-terrorist operations.

Constable B K Hazarika remains remembered as a Braveheart of the Border Security Force who stood in the line of duty and gave his life while serving the nation.
