Second Lieutenant Narinder Kumar Dua served with 5 JAK Rifles during the Indo-Pak War of 1965. Born in Sargodha in 1942, he was commissioned into the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and joined his battalion during a period of intense combat in the Sialkot sector.
5 JAK Rifles was employed in the Indian offensive towards Sialkot and subsequently took part in operations around Chawinda. The battalion faced strong enemy positions supported by artillery and armour, and the fighting remained intense through September.
During these operations, 2nd Lt Dua continued to perform his duties under heavy enemy fire. The situation around Chawinda had become particularly difficult, with Indian troops facing determined resistance and sustained shelling.
On 22 September 1965, Second Lieutenant Narinder Kumar Dua made the supreme sacrifice while serving with 5 JAK Rifles. He was among the officers and soldiers of the battalion who laid down their lives during the hard-fought operations in the Sialkot-Chawinda sector.
His sacrifice remains part of the proud wartime history of 5 JAK Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles.
