Assistant Sub Inspector Sagar Singh of the Pulwama District Police made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 12 September 2009, when terrorists targeted a police vehicle with a powerful improvised explosive device near Kathi Darwaza in Srinagar.

On that day, ASI Sagar Singh was leading a police party that had travelled from Pulwama to Srinagar to bring detenues from Central Jail Srinagar for court hearings. After the hearings were completed, the detenues were returned to the Central Jail and the police party began its journey back towards Pulwama.

As the police bus travelled through the Kathi Darwaza area, a vehicle carrying explosives that had been parked near the Central Jail was detonated remotely. The powerful blast struck the police bus, causing devastation and leaving several personnel injured.

The Final Journey

ASI Sagar Singh was inside the police vehicle when the blast occurred and made the supreme sacrifice at the scene. His sacrifice came while he was carrying out an important responsibility entrusted to him, leading the police party during the movement of detenues.

He stood at the head of his team when terrorists chose to strike, and gave his life in the line of duty. His martyrdom is a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by police personnel serving in Jammu and Kashmir, where even routine duties could turn into moments of grave danger.

The Honour Post remembers ASI Sagar Singh with respect and gratitude. His name belongs among the Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice while carrying out their responsibilities in service of the nation.
