THE HONOUR POST

Captain Arun Singh Jasrotia, SM, was serving with 9 PARA (Special Forces) during counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir. On 15 September 1995, while leading his team in the Lolab Valley, his men came under heavy rocket and small-arms fire from terrorists.

In an effort to extricate his men and regain the initiative, Captain Jasrotia crawled forward despite being seriously wounded. He killed one terrorist with his commando knife and neutralised another by throwing grenades. His courageous action gave his comrades an opportunity to take cover and engage the remaining terrorists effectively.

The Final Sacrifice

Captain Jasrotia sustained multiple serious injuries during the operation but continued fighting and leading his men. He was evacuated to a military hospital in Srinagar, where he later succumbed to his injuries on 26 September 1995.

For his exceptional courage, leadership and devotion to duty, Captain Arun Singh Jasrotia was awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously.
