A CRPF constable who made the supreme sacrifice after coming under sudden gunfire while returning from protection duty in Punjab

Constable Dev Karan Charmkar of the 75 Battalion, CRPF, made the supreme sacrifice while returning from protection duty in Punjab on 27 September 1991.
On that day, B Company of the 75 Battalion returned to its company location at Gagguba after performing protection duty at a Regional Rural Development Bank.
As the personnel crossed a road one by one because of heavy traffic, Constable Dev Karan Charmkar was the last to cross.
At that moment, gunshots were heard. Firing came from a tailor shop and Constable Dev Karan Charmkar was struck by bullets.
He sustained grievous injuries and made the supreme sacrifice.
His martyrdom remains part of the CRPF's record of service during the difficult period of counter-terrorist operations in Punjab.
