Constable Ganesh Dutt of 24 Battalion CRPF made the supreme sacrifice on 29 September 1991 during an anti-terrorist operation in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.
At the time, 24 Battalion CRPF was deployed in Srinagar for anti-terrorist operations. On 29 September 1991, CRPF troops were conducting an area domination patrol when they were ambushed by terrorists.
The attackers opened indiscriminate fire at the troops from inside houses. The CRPF personnel immediately retaliated and advanced towards the attackers, forcing them to flee through the lanes and by-lanes.
Constable Ganesh Dutt was fighting from the front and advancing towards the terrorists when he sustained severe injuries. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom.
Born on 2 June 1968, Constable Ganesh Dutt belonged to Badila Brahmana in R. S. Pura, Jammu. He served with 24 Battalion CRPF.
The official CRPF record lists his force number as 850844977 and records Smt. Poli Devi as his wife and next of kin.
