THE HONOUR POST
Constable Lakeshwar Bania of 133 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, was serving in Manipur during the period of insurgency in the region.
On 24 September 1997, personnel of 133 Battalion were returning from an operation in Imphal when insurgents ambushed the returning force and opened fire.
Facing the Ambush in Manipur
The CRPF personnel immediately responded to the attack and engaged the insurgents. A fierce exchange of fire followed as the troops fought to overcome the ambush.
Constable Lakeshwar Bania made the supreme sacrifice during the encounter on 24 September 1997.
His service and sacrifice remain a part of the proud history of the Central Reserve Police Force.
