Constable Mittu Ghosh of the 53 Battalion, Border Security Force, made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 11 September 2002. He was martyred in the Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir during a fierce encounter with terrorists.
Mittu Ghosh served with the Border Security Force at a time when its personnel were undertaking demanding counter-terrorism duties across Jammu and Kashmir. The responsibilities placed on those serving in the region required determination and courage, particularly when confronting armed terrorist attacks.
The Final Encounter
During the fierce encounter in the Surankote area, Constable Mittu Ghosh sustained fatal bullet injuries. He made the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out his duty and standing against the threat posed by terrorists.
His martyrdom remains part of the proud legacy of the Border Security Force and the sacrifices made by its personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. His name is remembered with honour alongside the comrades who stood with him in service of the nation.
