On 28 September 1998, a mobile patrol of the 54 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was attacked by insurgents near Guwahati in Assam.
Constable Parmar Bachu Bhai was among the personnel at the front who sustained severe injuries during the fierce encounter.
The troops retaliated and forced the attackers to flee. Despite sustaining injuries, the personnel continued to fight and kept firing.
Parmar Bachu Bhai later succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
His sacrifice remains part of the proud record of the Central Reserve Police Force.
