Constable Patee Ram of the 100 Battalion, CRPF, made the supreme sacrifice while serving in Punjab during counter-terrorist operations on 27 September 1992.
On that day, personnel of the battalion were conducting area domination near village Mastuana on the Barnala Marg in Sangrur district.
The attackers lobbed a grenade and opened indiscriminate fire on the CRPF personnel. The troops retaliated and engaged the attackers.
Constable Patee Ram sustained severe injuries during the engagement but continued fighting from the front and inflicted heavy losses on the attackers.
He later succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
His sacrifice remains part of the CRPF's record of service during the counter-terrorist operations in Punjab.
