Constable Ram Nagina Ram of the 38 Battalion, CRPF, made the supreme sacrifice while serving in Assam on 27 September 1994.
The 38 Battalion was deployed in Assam during a period of intense insurgent activity and regularly conducted patrols in the area.
On 27 September 1994, one such patrol came under attack from insurgents concealed in thick vegetation. The troops retaliated and forced the attackers to flee.
Ram Nagina Ram was at the front of the patrol when he sustained severe injuries. Despite his wounds, he continued fighting and firing at the attackers.
He later succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
His courage and sacrifice remain part of the CRPF's service record from the challenging period of counter-insurgency operations in Assam.
