Constable Rouf Ahmad Bhat of the Jammu and Kashmir Police made the supreme sacrifice on 13 September 2016, after battling for his life following a terrorist attack in the Nowhatta area of Srinagar.
On 15 August 2016, security personnel came under attack near Nowhatta Chowk in downtown Srinagar. Constable Rouf Ahmad Bhat was among the personnel who sustained serious injuries during the attack. He was critically injured and subsequently shifted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre in New Delhi for specialised treatment.
A resident of Check-i-Mujgund in the Parimpora area of Srinagar, Rouf Ahmad Bhat was 26 years old at the time. After being admitted to AIIMS, he remained on ventilator support while battling the severe injuries he had sustained.
A Sacrifice Remembered
After nearly three weeks of fighting for his life, Constable Rouf Ahmad Bhat made the supreme sacrifice at around 5 a.m. on 13 September 2016 at AIIMS. He had developed a severe infection in his lungs and subsequently suffered serious respiratory complications.
His sacrifice came from wounds sustained while performing his duty during the Nowhatta attack. A young police constable from Srinagar, Rouf Ahmad Bhat gave his life in the service of the people and the nation.
