Constable Saqib Mir of Jammu and Kashmir Police made the supreme sacrifice on 30 September 2018 while guarding Sadar Police Station in Shopian district.
In the early hours of 30 September, terrorists attacked the police station by hurling grenades and opening indiscriminate fire. Constable Saqib Mir was deployed at the main gate of the police station when the attack took place.
He sustained grave injuries in the attack and was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Contemporary reports identified Saqib Mir as a resident of Zawoora in Shopian district. The attack was repulsed by alert police personnel, while a search operation was subsequently launched to trace the attackers.
Constable Saqib Mir made the supreme sacrifice while performing his duty at a police station in his home district, standing guard in the face of a terrorist attack.
