Constable Sunil Deb Barma of 41 Battalion CRPF made the supreme sacrifice on 29 September 2008 during an operation in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh.
41 Battalion CRPF had launched an operation in the jungles under Police Station Barsoor. After the troops planned their withdrawal, the vehicles came under attack when Maoists detonated an improvised explosive device at Ghat Valley.
The blast severely injured the occupants of one of the vehicles. The attackers then advanced with heavy firing, attempting to take advantage of the injured personnel and seize their weapons.
Despite sustaining severe injuries, the CRPF personnel continued to hold their weapons and retaliated. Their determination forced the attackers to abandon their plan and flee from the area.
Constable Sunil Deb Barma was among the four members of 41 Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice during the encounter.
Born on 13 May 1965, he belonged to Madhopur in Sipahijala district of Tripura and served with 41 Battalion CRPF.
