Constable Zahoor Ahmad Parrey of the Jammu and Kashmir Police made the supreme sacrifice in 2003 while serving in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir.
Zahoor Ahmad Parrey was associated with the security detail of Kuka Parrey, a former militant commander who had entered mainstream politics. In September 2003, terrorists targeted Kuka Parrey's vehicle while he was travelling towards the Sonawari area of Sumbal to attend a public event. Constable Zahoor Ahmad Parrey was among those who made the supreme sacrifice in the attack.
His service came during a period when Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel faced grave risks while carrying out their duties. Police personnel assigned to protect public figures and maintain security remained exposed to terrorist attacks, often while performing routine responsibilities.
The memory of Constable Zahoor Ahmad Parrey has continued to live on in his home area. A government primary school in Bonikhan, Hajin, Bandipora, was later named Martyr Shri Zahoor Ahmed Government Primary School in his honour, preserving his name within the community.
His sacrifice was a loss not only to the Jammu and Kashmir Police but also to his family and the people he served. The remembrance attached to his name ensures that his service continues to be recognised.
