Constable/Driver L. Koran Goubi Singh of 41 Battalion CRPF made the supreme sacrifice on 29 September 2008 during an operation in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh.
Troops of 41 Battalion CRPF were operating in the jungles under Police Station Barsoor. After the operation did not result in contact with the Maoists, the troops planned their withdrawal.
While the troops were withdrawing in vehicles, Maoists detonated an improvised explosive device at Ghat Valley, targeting the vehicles. One of the vehicles was caught in the blast and its occupants were severely injured.
The attackers then advanced with heavy firing in an attempt to take advantage of the situation. Despite their injuries, the CRPF personnel continued to fight and retaliate. Their resistance forced the attackers to abandon their plan and flee.
Constable/Driver L. Koran Goubi Singh was among the four personnel of 41 Battalion who made the supreme sacrifice in the encounter.
Born on 1 February 1979, he belonged to Heirok Part-III in Thoubal district of Manipur and served with 41 Battalion CRPF.
