Constable/Driver Mohammad Zoobair of the Central Reserve Police Force was serving during anti-insurgency operations in Manipur in September 1997.
On 24 September 1997, personnel of 133 Battalion were returning from an operation in Imphal when insurgents hiding in an ambush opened indiscriminate fire on the force.
Facing the Ambush in Manipur
The troops immediately took positions and retaliated. A fierce encounter followed, with the CRPF personnel facing the attackers from a difficult position and advancing ahead using heavy fire.
The determined response of the troops eventually forced the insurgents to flee. Constable/Driver Mohammad Zoobair was among the CRPF personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during the encounter on 24 September 1997.
His service and sacrifice remain a part of the proud history of the Central Reserve Police Force.
