Follower Firdous Ahmad Kochey of the Jammu and Kashmir Police made the supreme sacrifice on 21 September 2018 after being abducted from his home in Batagund, Shopian.
Firdous Ahmad Kochey, 28, was posted at the railway police post at Kakapora in Pulwama. He lived with his wife and two young children in Batagund, Shopian. On the morning of 21 September 2018, a group of terrorists entered the village and went to the homes of police personnel.
Firdous was at home with his family when the terrorists arrived. They identified him and forcibly took him away from his house. The coordinated abductions also targeted other police personnel in the neighbouring villages of Batagund and Kapran.
The Supreme Sacrifice at Lamni-Wangam
About half an hour after the abductions, the bodies of the three police personnel were recovered from an orchard in the Lamni-Wangam area of Shopian. Firdous Ahmad Kochey had made the supreme sacrifice after being taken from his home.
He was the sole breadwinner of his family and was survived by his wife and two young children. His sacrifice left behind a family that had depended on him, while his service became part of the history of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Follower Firdous Ahmad Kochey is remembered with honour for his service and the supreme sacrifice he made on 21 September 2018.
His service and sacrifice will always be remembered.
