Havaldar Bahadur Singh Bohra of 10 Para (Special Forces) was the squad commander of an assault team deployed for a search operation in the Lawanz area of Jammu and Kashmir on 25 September 2008.
At about 6:15 pm, Havaldar Bohra observed a group of terrorists and immediately moved to intercept them. As he advanced, he came under heavy hostile fire.
Refusing Evacuation, He Continued the Assault
Undeterred by the intense fire, Havaldar Bohra charged towards the terrorists and engaged one of them at close range, eliminating him. During the engagement, he suffered severe gunshot wounds.
Despite his grievous injuries, he refused evacuation and continued with the assault. He moved closer to the remaining terrorists and engaged them at extremely close range, eliminating two more terrorists.
Havaldar Bahadur Singh Bohra displayed exceptional courage and determination throughout the engagement. Despite sustaining severe wounds, he continued fighting until he made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
For his conspicuous bravery, leadership and supreme sacrifice during the operation, Havaldar Bahadur Singh Bohra was awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously.
