Havaldar Jangkhohkai Kuki of 21 Assam Rifles made the supreme sacrifice on 29 September 2026 while on operational duty in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to reports, personnel of 21 Assam Rifles were conducting a patrol near Nampong Nallah, an area along the India-Myanmar border where border fencing work is underway. During the patrol, the team came under fire from suspected insurgents.
Havaldar Jangkhohkai Kuki, 42, made the supreme sacrifice in the attack. Four other Assam Rifles personnel were injured and were being evacuated for medical treatment.
Initial reports indicated that the attackers may have been linked to the NSCN (K-YA). However, the identity and affiliation of the attackers had not been officially confirmed in the initial reports.
The incident once again brought into focus the difficult operational environment faced by Assam Rifles personnel serving along the India-Myanmar border. Havaldar Jangkhohkai Kuki stood in the line of duty as part of 21 Assam Rifles and made the supreme sacrifice.
The Assam Rifles has paid tribute to Havaldar Jangkhohkai Kuki and expressed solidarity with his bereaved family. His service and sacrifice will remain part of the proud record of the force.
