Head Constable Abdul Khaliq of 94 Battalion CRPF was serving in Jammu & Kashmir during a period when the force was engaged in demanding counter-terrorist duties. Born on 02 July 1954, he hailed from Rampur Asli in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh and dedicated his service to the Central Reserve Police Force.
On 11 September 2002, a CRPF patrol was moving from Sogam towards Teripora in Kupwara district. Near Donawari, terrorists targeted the patrol by detonating a remotely operated improvised explosive device.
The explosion caused severe injuries to Head Constable Abdul Khaliq. Despite being badly wounded, he did not remain behind. When the terrorists began fleeing from the area, he joined the pursuit, determined to prevent them from escaping.
His decision to pursue the fleeing terrorists despite his serious injuries reflected extraordinary courage and devotion to duty. He continued with his comrades in the pursuit until his condition required medical evacuation.
Head Constable Abdul Khaliq was evacuated to hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was martyred in the line of duty.
Courage Beyond Injury
The final action of Head Constable Abdul Khaliq stands as a powerful example of courage under the most difficult circumstances. Severely wounded in the blast, his first instinct was not to withdraw but to join his comrades in pursuing the terrorists.
