Head Constable Gulzar Ahmad was serving with the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police when he made the supreme sacrifice during an operation in Kralpora, Kupwara, on 26 September 2011.
A joint team of the Indian Army and J&K Police SOG had launched an operation in the area after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists.
During the initial exchange of fire, Head Constable Gulzar Ahmad sustained critical injuries while the security forces engaged the terrorists.
He subsequently succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice.
His martyrdom came while he was serving with the J&K Police SOG in one of the difficult counter-terror operations conducted in the mountainous terrain of Kupwara.
For his gallantry and sacrifice in the line of duty, Head Constable Gulzar Ahmad was posthumously awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry.
