Head Constable Junal Topno of 43 Battalion, Border Security Force, made the supreme sacrifice on 28 September 2019 while performing observation duty along the Indo-Bangladesh border.
On 28 September 2019, Head Constable Junal Topno was detailed for observation duty at BOP Farzipara. At about 3:00 pm, he noticed movement of smugglers or miscreants travelling in country boats.
He challenged them and, when they did not stop, moved into the water in an attempt to apprehend them. He became trapped in deep water and high-standing grass.
A search operation was immediately launched with the assistance of a BSF speed boat and local civilians. He was recovered and taken to Sadik Khan Civil Hospital, Jalangi, West Bengal, but his condition was critical and he attained martyrdom at about 5:20 pm.
