Head Constable Ranvir Arya of the 9th Battalion, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 18 September 1999 in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir.
Ranvir Arya hailed from Tangroli in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. He was serving with the ITBP's 9th Battalion when he was deployed for election duty in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Final Sacrifice
On 18 September 1999, Head Constable Ranvir Arya was performing election duty in the Baramulla area when the ITBP personnel came under attack.
During the assault at Ajas, he stood in the line of duty and made the supreme sacrifice while serving with the 9th Battalion of the ITBP.
His martyrdom came during a period when ITBP personnel were performing challenging duties in Jammu and Kashmir, often under the threat of terrorist violence.
Head Constable Ranvir Arya gave his life in the service of the nation on 18 September 1999.
His name remains part of the roll of honour of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the enduring story of those who made the supreme sacrifice while serving in Jammu and Kashmir.
