Head Constable Sheraz Ahmad was serving with the Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police when he made the supreme sacrifice during an operation in Kralpora, Kupwara, on 26 September 2011.
Following intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area, a joint team of the Indian Army and J&K Police SOG launched an operation in the mountainous terrain of Kralpora.
During the initial exchange of fire, Head Constable Sheraz Ahmad and fellow SOG personnel came under terrorist fire and sustained critical injuries.
He subsequently succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice.
His martyrdom came during an operation in which the security forces were engaged in confronting terrorists in the difficult terrain of Kupwara.
For his gallantry in the line of duty, Head Constable Sheraz Ahmad was posthumously awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry.
