THE HONOUR POST

Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand of 4 Rashtriya Rifles, from 58 Armoured Regiment, made the supreme sacrifice on 20 September 2025 during a counter-terrorist operation in the high reaches of Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Service and Duty

Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand hailed from Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh. He served with 58 Armoured Regiment of the Armoured Corps and was deputed to 4 Rashtriya Rifles, where he served in counter-terrorist operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Final Operation

On 19 September 2025, security forces launched an intelligence-based operation after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the high reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand was part of a team that entered a suspected hideout. When armed terrorists suddenly attempted to overpower the troops, he moved towards one of the attackers and engaged him in close combat.

During the struggle, he wrested a Turkish-made pistol from the terrorist, preventing an immediate threat to his comrades and enabling the team to regroup and establish a cordon.

During the struggle, another terrorist opened fire and grievously wounded him in the chest. Despite the serious injury, Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand continued to engage the terrorist until he succumbed to his wounds on 20 September 2025.

The Supreme Sacrifice

Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on 20 September 2025.

For his exceptional courage and selfless devotion to duty during the operation, he was awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously.

His courage and sacrifice will always be remembered.
