Lance Naik (GD) Arjun Das of the Sashastra Seema Bal was serving with the force during the 2002 elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Originally from Tripura, he was serving with the erstwhile GC, Tripura, now associated with 19 Battalion SSB.
On 11 September 2002, Lance Naik Arjun Das was performing escort duty for a National Conference candidate during the elections in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. The duty placed him in an area where security personnel faced the constant threat of terrorist attacks.
During the election duty, terrorists launched an attack on the convoy. Lance Naik Arjun Das confronted the threat while carrying out his responsibility as part of the security detail. He fought valiantly in the attack and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
A Braveheart Remembered
Lance Naik Arjun Das's courage during the terrorist attack remains a proud part of the history of the Sashastra Seema Bal. He stood on duty when the safety of those under his protection depended on the courage of the personnel assigned to guard them.
His martyrdom on 11 September 2002 reflects the dedication of SSB personnel who served in Jammu and Kashmir during a challenging period and carried out their responsibilities despite the dangers they faced.
