Lance Naik Ayyub Ali
Lance Naik Ayyub Ali of The Rajputana Rifles was serving with 9 Rashtriya Rifles during a counter-insurgency operation in Jammu & Kashmir on 15 September 2018. A group of five heavily armed terrorists had been cordoned inside a house, with Lance Naik Ayyub Ali positioned to cover a likely escape route.
At around 0050 hours, the terrorists attempted to break the cordon using grenades and heavy fire, during which two soldiers were wounded. Seeing his comrades hit, Lance Naik Ayyub Ali came out of cover and engaged one of the escaping terrorists at very close range, eliminating him. He then continued engaging the remaining terrorists and enabled the safe evacuation of the wounded personnel.
For his exceptional courage, unflinching bravery and indomitable spirit during the operation, Lance Naik Ayyub Ali was awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
The Action
Lance Naik Ayyub Ali displayed complete disregard for his own safety while confronting the terrorists and directly contributed to the elimination of one terrorist and the safe evacuation of two wounded personnel. The official citation records his actions on 15 September 2018 in Jammu & Kashmir.
