A CRPF soldier who made the supreme sacrifice after confronting attackers during an area domination duty in Jammu and Kashmir

Lance Naik Mahipal Singh of the 122 Battalion, CRPF, made the supreme sacrifice while performing area domination duty in Jammu and Kashmir on 27 September 2000.
The 122 Battalion was deployed in Jammu and Kashmir to contain terrorist activities. On the day of the incident, Lance Naik Mahipal Singh was performing area domination duty when attackers opened automatic fire.
He retaliated and almost single-handedly forced the attackers to retreat. As they withdrew, the attackers lobbed a grenade which caused him severe injuries.
Lance Naik Mahipal Singh succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He was subsequently awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry posthumously for his courage and sacrifice.
His martyrdom remains part of the CRPF's record of service in Jammu and Kashmir.
