When information was received about an infiltration attempt, Major Singh responded swiftly and took charge of the situation, demonstrating the leadership and determination expected of an officer serving on one of India's most challenging frontiers.
Acting quickly, Major Singh laid an ambush at Rocket Support. Rather than engaging the terrorists from a distance, he displayed remarkable patience and courage, allowing them to approach closer before springing the ambush. His calculated decision took the terrorists by complete surprise, and he personally engaged and killed one of them.
The engagement, however, was far from over. As another terrorist attempted to outflank the position, Major Singh immediately recognised the danger. Showing initiative and complete disregard for his own safety, he swiftly moved to an effective position from where he could engage the fleeing terrorist.
The Final Battle
An intense and close exchange of fire followed. Major Singh succeeded in grievously injuring the second terrorist, but during the fierce engagement he himself sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest.
Despite suffering the serious injury, Major Singh refused to give up the fight. He continued engaging the remaining fleeing terrorists, remaining at his position and fighting with extraordinary determination until his last breath.
Major Akash Singh displayed exceptional courage, valour and leadership in the face of grave danger. His actions reflected the finest traditions of the Indian Army and demonstrated the selflessness with which soldiers continue to confront threats to the nation.
For his conspicuous bravery, indomitable spirit and supreme devotion to duty during the operation, Major Akash Singh was awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
His sacrifice remains a solemn reminder of the courage displayed by Indian soldiers during counter-terrorist operations, where officers and men often confront danger at close quarters to protect their comrades and safeguard the nation.
Major Akash Singh gave everything in the line of duty. His courage remains an enduring part of the proud legacy of the Indian Army.
