An Army Aviator
Major Anuj Rajput served with the Army Aviation Corps as part of 9 (Independent) Recce & Observation Flight. As an Army aviator, he was part of a specialised arm that provides vital aerial support to troops operating across some of India's most demanding terrain.
On 21 September 2021, Major Anuj Rajput and Major Rohit Kumar were undertaking an operational sortie aboard an Army Aviation Cheetah helicopter in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Final Mission
During the mission, their helicopter crashed in the mountainous area near Patnitop. Rescue teams were rushed to the site after the aircraft went down.
Both officers sustained critical injuries in the crash. Despite efforts to save them, Major Anuj Rajput and Major Rohit Kumar made the supreme sacrifice on 21 September 2021 while carrying out their operational duties.
Service in the Army Aviation Corps
Army aviators operate in conditions that frequently demand flying through difficult terrain and rapidly changing weather while supporting soldiers on the ground. Major Anuj Rajput's final mission reflected the responsibilities and risks undertaken by these aviators in the course of their service.
His sacrifice is remembered alongside Major Rohit Kumar, with whom he flew his final operational mission. Their names remain part of the history of the Army Aviation Corps and its service to the nation.
