Operation Parakram followed the December 2001 terrorist attack on the Indian Parliament and saw the Indian Armed Forces undertake a prolonged mobilisation along the country's western frontiers.
Major Harpal Singh served with 22 Sikh during this period of heightened military readiness and service. His sacrifice became part of the record of the Indian Army personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty during the operation.
