On 28 September 1992, the 84 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was deployed in Punjab for maintaining law and order and conducting anti-terrorist operations.

On that day, CRPF troops had a chance encounter with attackers at Faridkot. The attackers opened indiscriminate fire, and the troops immediately took positions and retaliated.

During the close-quarter encounter, Naik Ram Lakhan sustained severe injuries. Despite being wounded, he continued firing at the attackers.

Naik Ram Lakhan made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

His courage under fire remains a part of the CRPF's record of service and sacrifice.
