A Soldier of the Gorkhas
Rifleman Dal Bahadur served with 5/9 Gorkha Rifles during the Indo-Pak War of 1965. Born on 20 May 1944 in Kanari Village, Pithoragarh District, Uttarakhand, he served with his unit during the fighting in the Sialkot Sector.
During the war, the soldiers of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles were committed to demanding operations against Pakistani forces. Dal Bahadur stood with his comrades in the fighting that unfolded in the Sialkot Sector.
The Battle of Sordreke
On 19 September 1965, Rifleman Dal Bahadur was serving with his unit during the fighting at Sordreke in the Sialkot Sector. The engagement was marked by intense exchanges of fire between the opposing forces.
During the fighting, Dal Bahadur was severely wounded. He later succumbed to his injuries on 19 September 1965, making the supreme sacrifice while serving with 5/9 Gorkha Rifles.
