Rifleman Kewal Singh of 24 Assam Rifles made the supreme sacrifice on 28 September 2012 while serving in Chandel district of Manipur.

A team of 24 Assam Rifles posted at Kwatha village was moving along the road leading towards Kwatha village when a series of blasts was triggered at Kwatha Khunou Lamkhai.

Seven bombs had reportedly been planted along the road. The blasts occurred in succession at around 1:15 pm, causing casualties among the Assam Rifles personnel and civilians.

Rifleman Kewal Singh sustained injuries in the blasts and later succumbed to his injuries, making the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

His sacrifice remains a part of the proud history of Assam Rifles and its service in the challenging operational environment of the Northeast.
