Second Lieutenant Prakash Narayan Shridhar Kotnis of the Indian Army was born on 10 March 1939 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was commissioned into the Army and served with 14 Field Regiment.
During the Indo-Pak War of 1965, his regiment was deployed in the strategically important Chhamb sector, where Indian artillery provided vital fire support during intense fighting.
As a young artillery officer, Second Lieutenant Kotnis carried out his duties under extremely hazardous battlefield conditions during the operations in Chhamb.
The Final Sacrifice
On 15 September 1965, during the Battle of Chhamb, Second Lieutenant Prakash Narayan Shridhar Kotnis made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
He was only 26 years old.
