Sepoy K Vikas Janardhan was a soldier of the Indian Army who served with 6 Bihar. He hailed from Purad village in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra. He had joined the Army in 2008 and was serving at the Uri Army base in Jammu & Kashmir in September 2016.
He was married and was the father of a young daughter. His family was in Maharashtra when the terrorist attack at Uri changed the course of their lives.
The Uri Attack
On 18 September 2016, terrorists attacked an Indian Army base in Uri, Jammu & Kashmir. The attackers entered the camp in the early hours and launched an assault on the soldiers, with gunfire and grenades causing fires in the temporary shelters.
Sepoy K Vikas Janardhan was among the soldiers who sustained critical injuries during the attack. He was evacuated for specialised treatment to the Army Research & Referral Hospital in New Delhi.
Despite medical treatment, his condition remained critical. He continued to fight for his life after being grievously wounded in the attack.
The Final Sacrifice
Sepoy K Vikas Janardhan succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice on 19 September 2016, one day after the terrorist attack on the Uri Army base.
His martyrdom brought the number of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the Uri attack to 18.
His story is also the story of the many soldiers who stood at their posts when the Uri base came under attack. Though critically wounded, he continued his fight for life before ultimately succumbing to his injuries.
Sepoy K Vikas Janardhan remains remembered as a soldier of 6 Bihar whose service ended in sacrifice following the Uri attack. His name remains among the Bravehearts of Uri.
