On 28 September 1998, a mobile patrol of the 54 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was moving through a dense jungle near Guwahati in Assam when it came under heavy fire from insurgents.

The troops immediately retaliated and forced the attackers to flee from the area. During the fierce encounter, Sub Inspector P. T. Yohanan, who was positioned at the front with his colleagues, sustained severe injuries.

Despite his injuries, he continued to fight and kept firing during the encounter. He later succumbed to his injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Sub Inspector P. T. Yohanan remains remembered for his courage and devotion to duty while serving with the Central Reserve Police Force.
