Assistant Sub Inspector B. K. Yadav of 182 Battalion, Border Security Force, made the supreme sacrifice while defending his battalion headquarters near Srinagar International Airport on 3 October 2017.
In the early hours of 3 October, a group of terrorists entered the BSF's 182 Battalion headquarters at Gogoland, adjacent to Srinagar International Airport.
The terrorists entered the camp and opened fire. BSF personnel immediately engaged the attackers, leading to a prolonged gun battle inside the camp.
Assistant Sub Inspector B. K. Yadav fought the attackers during the assault and made the supreme sacrifice.
Three other BSF personnel were injured during the encounter. Security forces subsequently eliminated the attackers and conducted search operations inside the camp.
At the time, 182 Battalion BSF was entrusted with the security of the runway of Srinagar International Airport.
Assistant Sub Inspector B. K. Yadav hailed from Kamalchak village in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. He had joined the BSF in 1987.
