Constable B. D. Bante, 30 BN CRPF
In 1987, as Punjab faced a serious security challenge, the 30th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was deployed in Kapurthala district to assist the local police in maintaining law and order and conducting counter-terrorist operations.
On 31 October 1987, a CRPF party engaged in an anti-terrorist operation came under an ambush by terrorists. The troops responded to the attack with determination, returning fire and forcing the attackers to retreat. The encounter developed into a fierce exchange in which the personnel faced direct and sustained danger.
Constable B. D. Bante and Constable Rayan Bungera attained martyrdom during the encounter. Constable Bante made the supreme sacrifice on 31 October 1987, serving with the 30th Battalion in Punjab.
The Honour Post remembers Constable B. D. Bante with respect and gratitude. His sacrifice, alongside his fellow CRPF personnel, remains part of the force’s history of service during a difficult period in Punjab.
