Constable B. Venkata Rao of 52 Battalion, Central Reserve Police Force, made the supreme sacrifice while serving in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.
On 3 October 1995, a CRPF contingent of 52 Battalion was deployed to guard the Police Control Room in Srinagar as part of anti-terrorist operations.
Terrorists launched an attack on the Police Control Room using indiscriminate firing and grenades. The CRPF personnel immediately retaliated, leading to a fierce gun battle.
The attackers attempted to enter the Control Room, but the determined response of the CRPF personnel foiled the attempt.
Constable B. Venkata Rao was fighting from the front and firing at the attackers when he sustained severe injuries.
He attained martyrdom during the encounter in the line of duty.
