Constable Dharnidhar Nath of the Central Reserve Police Force's 53rd Battalion made the supreme sacrifice on 30 October 1990 after sustaining bullet injuries during an attack in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir. He hailed from Bhawanipur B Block in the Nalbari district of Assam.
On 29 October 1990, the 53rd Battalion was deployed in Anantnag for counter-insurgency duties. Constable Nath was part of an escort accompanying an officer. As the vehicle approached a corner in the Nai Basti area, attackers opened fire on the convoy.
The escort party and personnel in a second vehicle responded to the attack, forcing the assailants to flee. During the exchange, Constable Nath and Naik/Driver R. D. Chaudhary sustained bullet injuries. While Chaudhary made the supreme sacrifice at the scene, Constable Nath succumbed to his injuries the following day, 30 October 1990.
His sacrifice came during a difficult period in Jammu and Kashmir, when CRPF personnel were entrusted with demanding security responsibilities. Constable Nath was carrying out his assigned escort duty when the vehicle came under attack, placing himself in danger as part of the team protecting others.
The Honour Post remembers Constable Dharnidhar Nath with honour and gratitude. His name is preserved among the CRPF personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, and his service remains worthy of remembrance.
