In 2000, the 129th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force was serving in Assam, where it had been deployed to help maintain peace and contain ULFA insurgent activity. The battalion’s work involved operational duties in a challenging security environment.
On 19 October 2000, Constable J. D. Khole was among the CRPF personnel who moved as reinforcement for Assam Police commandos attacked by insurgents at Sanhaibari. The situation developed into an armed encounter, placing the reinforcement party under fire.
The CRPF party retaliated with effective fire and repulsed the attack. Khole sustained bullet injuries during the confrontation. He was one of three constables from the 129th Battalion involved in the incident, alongside Constable Ram Prakash and Constable K. Anjanyelu.
Khole later succumbed to his injuries. The official CRPF memorial notes that the three personnel made the supreme sacrifice with their weapons firmly in their hands. His martyrdom on 19 October 2000 remains a part of the Force’s record of courage and selfless service.
